Seismic Assessment of the Existing School Building of Yeniköy Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. and Preparation of the Structural Strengthening Project

The seismic performance analysis of the YEAS Former School Building was carried out in accordance with the requirements of the applicable earthquake code, and the structural strengthening project and technical specifications were prepared. The studies performed are summarized below: The existing building was inspected to verify its compliance with the available design drawings, and updated as-built survey drawings were prepared. Soil parameters were determined through borehole investigations conducted on the building plot. An inspection pit was excavated to identify the type and condition of the building’s foundation system. Concrete core samples were taken in the number specified by the applicable code to determine the concrete strength class. The number and diameters of the reinforcement bars in the columns and beams were determined using a reinforcement scanning device and the concrete cover removal method. After all field investigation and material data had been collected, the building was modeled and structurally analyzed. As a result of the seismic performance assessment, it was concluded that the building required structural strengthening.
